This is an outstanding circa 1930’s quilt, a Dresden Plate with an edge border of half plates. This was applique work.
Adding to the detail it is set with a garden maze setting of pink.
The piecework on this is amazing and there so much of it. The garden maze design in-between the plates adds more to this pattern.
This is both pieced and appliquéd, and I am seeing hand piecing and hand appliqué also. All finished off with nice quality hand quilting.
The binding edge is another great trait of the quilt as it was finished with a knife edge style.
Another unique detail is the little cutout corners on all 4 corners. This is a technique generally found on just the bottom corners and deeper cuts on early quilts from the 1850’s time period.
I am thinking this was done so the drop on the quilt would look wonderful on a bed.
With that in mind the dimensions of this quilt are so generous and large, 87x109 inches. That is big enough for many of today’s kings and easily a queen and could be folded on a smaller bed. Photographed on a queen bed.
The condition of this beauty is excellent and I did give it a gentle wash.
I can only imagine the maker of this heirloom work of art.
