The Variable Stars quilt set with a great pieced sashing of interlocking geometric shapes to create a trellis maze effect adds to the dimension and detail of this quilt that back in 1886 that was signed with the initials E F E M in fancy stitch work of embroidery. It is also dated 1886.
This was all a discovery to me after purchasing it. Yes,, I love that kind of details in studying quilts I acquire. As a collector too, this discovery is an important pieces of history for this quilt.
The condition of this quilt is excellent and may have been washed once at some time. A block with minor color lift, just natural for a quilt is this age.
There are some hearts quilted in the sashing, giving me the thought this may have been a wedding quilt, one saved for that occasion.
The dimension are 66x85 inches. Shown on a queen bed.
