Sawtooth Square in a Square Quilt
Sawtooth Square in a Square Quilt
A phenomenal southern antique quilt that is early and has great chintz fabrics and color and design.
This Sawtooth pattern set in blocks is somewhat different than many of the chintz quilts I’ve owned and seen. The fabrics are a dun chintz, early pinks, a chocolate brown and some touches of chrome orange.
My understanding this is a southern quilt. I have no provenance.
The condition is excellent. The quilt really looks to be unused and was stored and taken care of for so many years.
This early quilt was professionally cleaned years ago and is superb with its age.
A circa 1840’s quilt and the hand quilting is excellent.
Double line/rod quilting and see all the closeups for details.
On the backside corner is a circle of cheddar/chrome orange fabric stitched down and I always wondered the reason for that. Was it the makers ‘tag”? Was it the makers ‘signature”? If only we knew.
The dimensions are 76x83 inches.
