This is one of those quilts that one thinks of the maker piecing all those tiny blocks.
A Double 9 Patch quilt in red and white, one we added to the Collection, Piecework of Blocks-Shapes. A classic American antique quilt.
Circa 1900’s.
The hand quilting is detailed with feathered wreaths and in the blocks close crosshatch quilting.
I felt this was a great example how scale makes such a difference in the making of a quilt and in this one the tiny square blocks in the pattern set this apart from a quilt with bigger pieces.
The single blocks are only 5/8ths of an inch in size. The total block is only 2 inches by 2 inches making the entire set of blocks only a 6x6 inch block of piecework.
This beauty has been gently washed and a couple minor age spots remain. There is the slightest of natural binding wear in just a few inches.
The pattern of red and white blocks is framed by red around the border.
