Early outstanding southern Star quilt with the bold bars of red and cheddar in the corners and sides in-between the points.
Not only is the Star filled with tiny diamonds of great early fabrics, but the border is done in mixed lots of different patchwork.
The patchwork has some super small piecing. So unique
Acquired from the Greenbrier, Arkansas area.
The hand quilting is a testament of the makers love of making this patchwork.
Stunning rows of fan quilting that pops with beauty.
In buying this great quilt you’re getting it as a piece of antique quilt art you’re not buying it for the fine condition because it has wear in places. It’s one of those quilts with age patina that I ignore personally because the other details outweigh the fabric breaks/ loss which is really deterioration in those pieces not actually wear.
The fabrics that were used in those specific pieces just did not hold up overtime. There’s no wear on the binding, which is usually an indication of use.
I would say this quilt was really not used much, but has withstood the test of time as a circuit 1870’s quilt.
The backing is a great homespun plaid fabric.
Dimensions are 61x79 inches
