This stunning circa 1880’s antique quilt, an appliqué of 6 blocks and finished off with a beautiful border of appliqué is so very detailed in design. A Coxcomb and Leaves Appliqué with a vining border of flowers.
Colors of a timely soft faded red and chrome orange and a green that has some soft fading to it almost having some fugitive look to it. It has been gently washed and air dried.
This speaks that the quilt has been displayed in its past history.
The other details is that it doesn't show wear, so I feel it was really not used as a bedcover and mainly out for its beauty.
The quilt is all hand quilted and the maker may have wanted to show off the ownership of a sewing machine of the time as the appliqué work is done by machine. Very likely treadle and so fine is the workmanship, very precise appliqué on the stems, flowers and leaves. Be sure and see all the images.
The dimensions are a generous 73x92 inches on this Ohio quilt. It is also shown on a queen bed . This is a patten where the quilt can be turned either direction.
