An outstanding antique quilt with lots of great fabrics from circa 1860’s.
This Lost Ships quilt has such detailed hand quilting in the blocks. The various designs quilted are a fine close crosshatch design, a double rod design, a close triple rod design like stipple work, and a clamshell quilting design.
The overall condition of this circa 1860’s beauty is excellent. Only to note a light water mark and minor age toning.
The fabrics are a collectors delight in the variety of the fabrics used in the blocks. To put the “icing on the cake” so to speak,,, the fantastic border of a paisley print frames this beauty and adds to much detail to the overall design.
The binding is a tiny one, found often in quilts from this time period. The back was brought forward to the front and hand stitched down.
