This one we just cannot get over all the wonderful antique fabrics.
This is a Postage Stamp Patchwork Quilt of one inch pieces. The layout of the 24 blocks of patchwork, a 4 block by 6;block layout shows off the piecework which is framed by a red and brown striped fabric. I can see why the maker chose this brown fabric to accent all the brown fabrics in the blocks.
There are 100 pieces of patchwork per “block” and with 24 blocks, making this quilt have 2,400 pieces of stamp sized hand pieced pieces.
The overall condition is excellent and thinking for a circa 1880’s quilt there was just minimal surface wear in only 4 to 5 pieces of which 2 was a black fabric that had more deterioration. The other couple were a silk like fabric.
It is hand quilted and is stunning as wall art or for display in a bed.
The great backing is a beautiful print and it’s bound by hand.
The dimensions are 74x96 inches on this standout of a quilt.
