This early Maryland quilt is quite an outstanding beauty of design and hand work. The fine hand quilting won’t disappoint as it shows the quality of a skilled quilt maker.

The colors are also a standout. The red, yellow, and green calicos of circa 1870’s or before are so well used in this design of artwork.

Add to the hexagons filled  with the small stars is the border of blocks framing the quilt.

The original binding is small and narrow, a sign of its early tine period when made.

This is a quilt that can be displayed in so many ways depending on the desired look of the blocks. Shown on a queen bed. Overall excellent condition not seeing wear. Thee is age toning. This quilt has never been washed and most likely was just stored and put away “ for a special occasion”

I added this quilt to the Collection, Piecework of Blocks-Shapes, as an example of diamonds in the piecework  and triangles and how this pattern then shows in total with a hexagon block. It also shows the use of squares on the border.

The generous dimensions of this early quilt are 83x93 inches.

Note how the quilt can be displayed either vertical or horizontal on a bed or wall if desired.

So exquisite an antique quilt.
