Stunning early Basket of Flowers quilt that is both pieced and appliqué.
The basket is pieced.
The appliqué flowers are a wonderful wonderful early chintz fabric.
Not only are the baskets and flowers wonderful but the hand quilting is exquisite,,, tiny tiny hand quilted stitches by skilled quilt maker done so many years ago.
A circa 1860s Quilt or earlier.
The quilt appears actually unused never washed and it displays wonderfully.
A detail I missed earlier was the snake in one of the Baskets ,,, that is a unique feature on this quilt and quilts in general.
Even the binding was done in the early style of a piped edge.
There’s a small early piece of paper attached to the top corner stitched on that says Mrs. Jean Olstrand , I think is the name.
