This beauty spoke to me with the early blue fabrics in the blocks and the setting fabric of an early print.
Another characteristic was the wonderful tiny binding, which is often seen in these earlier quilts.
A Double Irish Chain quilt.
Circa 1880’s
Nice tiny hand quilted stitches. 10 -13 stitches per inch !!! that is incredible.
The maker looks like they had a supply or yardage of the indigo and the ground fabric, as when making the quilt only the 2 fabrics were used.
That sometimes indicated that the maker has the means to afford yardage and didn’t use scraps
It has a wonderful “ feel”.
These cotton quilts just have so much to offer.
I gave this beauty a gentle wash,,, the condition is excellent. No wear or issues noted.
With that being said, makes me feel it was so cherished for the many years of it’s existence.
Dimensions are 68x 86 inches
