This wonderful blue and white quilt made with classic colors of the circa 1930’s time is a Hearts and Gizzards quilt . Another name for this pattern for the squeamish of mind is Windmill Heart.
This beauty has been gently washed and air dried and is ready to enjoy.
The condition is excellent.
All nicely hand quilted.
A design that required lots of piecing. This is a smaller pieced design and took much longer to piece.
The quilt is then bordered by blue ad white bars.
Per the internet….. “The pattern emerged in rural America, with early documented versions found in wool as far back as 1900. Quilt historians trace the official, published naming of the pattern to the Ladies Art Company catalog around 1890.”
I’ve always thought of how this pattern was named by possibly a farmers wife that had chickens. Anyway, ways of life back then brought inspiration for many quilt pattern names.
The dimensions are a generous 79x81 inches.
