Frontier Quilt - "The Way West" SOLD
(Item: Q-570)
This special embroidered quilt with many blocks depicting the frontier way and famous people of the west. Condition is excellent and looks to be unwashed. Size is 72x81 inches. Well made and hand embroidered and hand quilted. Hand bound with a separate binding. This pattern actually came out in a Nebraska newspaper , I believe in the 1930's, and these were the suggested colors of gray background and pink for the sashing. It is also a cotton sateen fabric, as was also suggested. Some of the blocks include embroidery of General George Custer, Sitting Bull, Wild Bill Hickok, Buffalo Bill, the Coronado Expedition, Martha Jane Canary-Calamity Jane, John Brown, Buffalo, The Little Giant-Stephen A Douglas, Black Robe-Pierre Jean De Smet S.J.,The Covered Wagon States and others. This really has a medallion style with a bigger central block and other blocks around it. A great pictorial quilt for the collector of embroidery, western, political, history, Americana and anyone that wants to enjoy of piece of art and a wonderful quilt. Displays well. Nebraska origin.
