Early Round Corner Indian Trade Blanket - Sold
(Item: B-497)
This wonderful round corner wool Indian trade blanket, unlabeled, but probably a Pendleton. Size 59x71. Circa 1900. The
colors and shades of red , black , brown, yellow, green, and orange give this blanket lots of appeal in addition that
it is one of the highly collectible round corner blankets that are the earlier trade blankets. The condition is very
good to excellent for a blanket of this age having only a few moth spots and one small dime size hole near the edge,
as shown. The red binding is in very good condition with slight wear in just a couple spots. The blanket hangs and
displays well. There is a picture on page 84, upper right, in Barry Friedman's book Chasing Rainbows that shows an
Indian wearing a round corner blanket very similar to this.
As Barry notes on page 85 of his book, "Round corner
blankets are especially prized by collectors and are without question the most valuable Pendleton blankets." There is
also a blanket similar to this on page 88 in Language of the Robe by Kapoun and also on page 84 an image of an Indian
wearing a blanket. I'd love to have a stack of these, but I was so thrilled to have come across this one. So take a
look and if you have any questions, be sure and ask... It's a beauty! Special reduced price, it's even better in
the "real".....
