Cindys Antique Quilts

Offering for sale this wonderful dated, signed crazy crib quilt. It is dated 1887 and signed Mary and also has the initials A.D. in one of the blocks. Size is 31x32 inches. It has the most wonderful embellishments of a sunflower, early peacock, horseshoe, fern, bird, anchor, butterfly, cross, fan in the corner, harp, moon and stars, and so much more. It is made mostly from velvets and some felts and wool, so the condition is quite good with only a few loose pieces and stitches. It appears that the backing was added at a later period. Crazy quilts were usually pieced and put on a foundatioin , as this one is. There is a great variety of stitches. What an exceptional folky early crazy quilt that displays well. Found in the NE USA.
