1933 George Washington Cherry Tree /Hatchet Quilt -SOLD
(Item: Q-430)
1933 George Washington Cherry Tree and Hatchet Quilt w/Border (q-430)-Circa Dated 1933, size 78x86. The condition of
this quilt is near mint and unused. This wonderful applique quilt with the resemblance of the famous story of young
George Washington and the cherry tree. Whether it is fact or legend, the story goes that when young George Washington
was about 6 years old acquired a hatchet and tried it out on the young English cherry-tree.
This quilt has a historic patriotic look to it, in addition to being a very fine quality quilt. It is all hand quilted
at an excellent 10-11 spi and also finely hand appliqued. The maker who signed and dated the quilt was M. E Osborne of
Hamilton County, Indiana. On the backside is the attached fabric with her initial’s M.E.O. 1933. The narrow green
binding is hand whipped on. The workmanship is fantastic and the theme is equal. This quilt was unused and has never
been washed. It does have a few light insignificant storage spots. I decided not to wash this quilt and leave it in the
crisp unwashed condition it is in. The red and green fabrics are strong and it hasn't been used other than display.
Study the images , as they tell the story of this exquisite quilt. It is a true visual delight. This quilt would make
an excellent addition for a collection and it displays well. Indiana
